Summary:
On April 29, EPA released the Final Insecticide Strategy aimed at reducing the impact of agricultural insecticides on federally listed endangered and threatened species and their critical habitats. This Final Insecticide Strategy covers conventional insecticides, insect growth regulators, nematicides and miticides that are used in agriculture in the lower 48 states. The purpose of the Strategy is to identify mitigations to reduce the potential for population-level impacts on listed species and their critical habitats.
This Final Strategy incorporates many changes and improvements from the Draft Insecticide Strategy published in July 2024, based on extensive public comments. These changes include clarifications, additional mitigation options for spray drift and runoff reduction, increased mitigation points for some practices, a revised approach for growers participating in qualified runoff/erosion programs, and more.
